JESUIT 7 TWHS 3

Updated: Feb 21, 2020

On a clear and brisk Saturday afternoon at Postell Stadium in Dallas, the Jesuit Rangers were led by Johns Hopkins commit, Sam Teachout(3gs), in a 7-3 victory over The Woodlands.

Just the second game of the season for both teams, Saturday’s inter-district match-up was an opportunity to see how they stack up against another top-tier program in the state early in the 2020 campaign.

In addition to Teachout’s hat trick, the Rangers were able to get goals from USNA commit, Tommy Hovivian(2g’s), Billy Metz(1g), and Tilt Fernandes(1g). Curran Rose helped facilitate the offense for Jesuit with 2 assists and Connor Legg added an assist as well.

As mentioned, this was just the second game of the 2020 season for both teams and it showed throughout the first half. At the end of the first quarter, The Woodlands had a 1-0 lead. Jesuit would respond in the 2nd quarter with some long, deliberate, possessions and go on a two-goal run to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Each team seemed to settle in after halftime and the action heated up. Donovan Rock netted is 2nd goal of the afternoon and Dylan Binney absolutely destroyed the top left corner off a well slipped pick and shot with time and room to bring The Woodlands back within 1 goal headed into the final frame with a score of 4-3.

In the fourth quarter, Jesuit’s defense put the clamps down and were able to shut out the Higlanders’ offense for the 2nd quarter of the day. Hovivian's timely back to back goals extended Jesuit’s lead to 3 before Teachout would complete his hat trick and give Jesuit the 7-3 win.

In the loss, USAFA commit, Donovan Rock(2g, 1a), carried most of the load for the Highlanders’ offense while Loyola commit, Dylan Binney, added a bucket of his own.

With the win, Dallas Jesuit improves to 2-0 on the season with wins over Frisco and The Woodlands. The Rangers will be back in action at home again on Thursday in a District tilt against Prosper. The Woodlands fall to 1-1 on the season after handling Friendswood just a week ago. For the Highlanders, the schedule does not get any lighter as they face-off against Southlake tomorrow, 2/16, and travel back to Dallas in a week to take on ESD on 2/23.
